Anti-beta-2 glycoprotein I IgG (aβ2-GPI IgG) antibodies are a type of antiphospholipid antibody that target beta-2 glycoprotein I, a protein involved in the coagulation pathway. These autoantibodies can disrupt normal clotting processes, potentially leading to an increased risk of blood clots (thrombosis) and pregnancy-related complications such as recurrent miscarriages.
Testing for aβ2-GPI IgG is part of the laboratory criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), along with anticardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulant. It is often ordered when someone has unexplained thrombosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, or a systemic autoimmune disorder like lupus.
