Myeloperoxidase antibodies (MPO-ANCA) are autoantibodies directed against myeloperoxidase, an enzyme found in neutrophil granulocytes. They belong to the antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) family and typically produce a perinuclear staining pattern (p‑ANCA) on indirect immunofluorescence. MPO‑ANCA are strongly associated with ANCA‑associated vasculitides, particularly microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). Testing for MPO‑ANCA aids in the diagnosis, classification, and monitoring of these rare autoimmune conditions that affect small blood vessels.
